Application Architect - Full-Stack Java/Spring, React, K8s (m/f/d)

You will become part of an AI-native startup in an early development phase, whose product has already proven its product-market fit. We develop state-of-the-art AI solutions for Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance (GRC) for companies worldwide.

Our customers are auditors, risk managers, and compliance teams. Therefore, thorough evaluation, auditability, and preparation for the requirements of the EU AI Regulation are not afterthoughts for us, but fixed product requirements.

Responsibilities

As an Application Architect (m/f/d), you will be one of our first full-time senior developers and work closely with our co-founder and CTO. You will be responsible for the backend architecture and help the team increase quality and development speed with growth.

In the first 6-12 months, you will:

• establish a clear target architecture and a solid documentation foundation using arc42;
• refine and communicate the central domain model to the team based on DDD principles;
• introduce and standardize an AI-driven development process – from feature specification to deployment in the production environment;
• strengthen development practice through coaching, pair programming, and feedback loops, especially for junior developers;
• improve reliability and software delivery through better CI/CD processes, test automation, and a cleanly maintained infrastructure.

Accountabilities

• Develop compelling solutions for novel problem statements in an AI-first architecture together with the team.
• Drive a DevOps-oriented approach throughout the entire lifecycle: from specification to development to delivery – inspired by the DevOps Handbook.
• Propose and implement approaches that make software delivery faster and more reliable, for example, through better workflows, shorter feedback loops, and faster recovery from incidents.
• Build and further develop cross-system monitoring and observability – including metrics, logs, traces, and alerting – so that we can detect problems early and learn from production operations.
• Coach junior developers and apply proven development, design, and architecture practices together with them.
• Design an AI-driven development process together with the team, from feature specification to deployment in the production environment.
• Plan and document the backend architecture using the arc42 framework.
• Expand and clearly communicate the domain model based on DDD principles.
• Manage and expand the application infrastructure on Azure using Pulumi.

Qualifications

Essential Prerequisites

• Experience with the arc42 framework (ISAQB) and C4.
• Experience in leading and empowering development teams.
• In-depth experience with Java Spring Boot (MVC, JPA, Security).
• Solid knowledge of design patterns and Domain-Driven Design.
• Excellent code quality based on Clean Code and SOLID principles.
• Extensive experience with TDD and BDD.
• Experience in full-stack web development with React and Angular.

Furthermore, you will impress with…

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code on Azure or AWS using Pulumi.
• A strong DevOps mentality – the DevOps Handbook is your bible – and experience in building:
• reliable CI/CD pipelines and release processes;
• production-ready monitoring and observability, as well as procedures for responding to operational incidents;
• continuous improvement processes, for example, by following up on incidents, learning from operations, and prioritizing actions to improve reliability.
• Experience with Claude Code or comparable AI-assisted development workflows.
• IntelliJ knowledge at power-user level.
