AJO Implementation & Architecture Lead
Job description
We are seeking a hands-on, senior-level Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO) Implementation & Architecture Lead to partner with our external solution team in delivering a high-quality, scalable AJO platform. This role will serve as a key technical and strategic contributor, bringing expertise in AJO architecture, data integration, and marketing operations.
The person will work closely with the solution partner team—across strategy, architecture, engineering, and QA—to ensure platform design aligns with PMI’s data infrastructure, customer journey needs, and long-term marketing vision.
This individual will be instrumental in helping migrate existing journeys from the current ESP into AJO, optimizing for scale and performance, and contributing to the development of governance, journey templates, and best practices that enable the broader marketing team.

Responsibilities
- Solution Design & Delivery
- Serve as the internal lead for AJO solution architecture and implementation, working in collaboration with the agency delivery team
- Translate marketing use cases into detailed journey logic, event structures, segmentation strategies, and activation workflows
- Define the AJO schema, identity stitching strategy, and real-time event model in collaboration with data engineers and architects
- Support platform configuration—offers, decisioning rules, triggers, journeys—and participate directly in technical implementation
- Data Integration
- Partner with internal Data Engineering to ensure Snowflake data is properly structured and activated for AJO
- Define requirements for customer attributes, consent flags, and behavioral event streams
- Validate inbound and outbound data flows with appropriate QA and testing standards
- Journey Migration & Optimization
- Rebuild and modernize customer journeys and programs, leveraging AJO’s capabilities for personalization, scale, and responsiveness
- Collaborate with Email Operations and Marketing Ops teams to QA, test, and activate journeys across key channels
- Collaboration & Enablement
- Work closely with the solution partner team, including: Martech Strategist, Program & Delivery Leads, Platform Architect, Technical Engineers
- Contribute to a shared documentation framework, including platform configuration, use case mapping, and QA test plans
- Provide guidance to internal stakeholders across Martech, eCommerce, Web, CRM, Legal, Brand and Integrated/Campaign Marketing teams to align strategy and activation
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in Marketing Technology or related digital implementation roles
- Adobe certifications (AJO Architect, AEP Business Practitioner, Adobe Target)
- Familiarity with journey orchestration in regulated or global marketing environments (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
- Hands-on implementation experience with Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO)
- Strong foundation in journey architecture, customer lifecycle logic, and real-time personalization
- Expertise with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouses and their role in marketing activation (nice to have)
- Ability to design data schemas, decisioning frameworks, and event payloads for cross-channel journeys
- Experience with identity resolution, consent and preference management, and segmentation logic
- Ability to read and debug JSON payloads, define API interactions, and partner on event instrumentation
- Understanding of AJO’s connection points to Adobe Experience Platform (AEP), Real-Time CDP, and downstream systems (e.g., email, push, web)
- Strong collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work productively across vendor and in-house teams
- Ability to document architecture decisions, QA protocols, and operational playbooks for handoff and scale
- Experience with campaign QA, journey testing, and performance optimization
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working with both technical and business audiences
