AI Architect (m/f/d)
Job description
About Us
UnternehmerTUM is Europe's leading center for innovation and startups – and we are currently building the technological foundation for how an entire organization can use AI productively, securely, and effectively. As an AI Architect, you will shape this foundation: from the fundamental stack decision to the reference implementation that other teams will use as a model. You will make architectural decisions with far-reaching implications for the entire company – and remain hands-on with the system while doing so.
Your Responsibilities
With us, you will make architectural decisions with real impact: You will work at the interface between AI responsibility, business departments, IT, and the Trusted AI Board – and remain actively involved in implementation rather than just drawing up concepts.
- Define AI Architecture & Stack Decisions (30%): You will define company-wide principles, make fundamental stack decisions, and establish patterns that other teams can reuse.
- Evaluate & Develop Tech Approach (15%): You will critically examine our current approach and, with justification, decide whether it will be confirmed, refined, or replaced – including a migration path.
- Design Central AI Platform (25%): You will build the integration and gateway architecture as well as a provider-neutral model policy on which the entire company will build.
- Set Security & Data Access Baseline (15%): You will develop security standards together with data owners and the CISO and represent architectural decisions in the Trusted AI Board.
- Provide Guidance to the Organization (15%): You will provide templates and reference implementations and support teams through architectural reviews and office hours.
Your Profile
- 7+ years of experience in production software, with several years as an architect or tech lead
- 2+ years of experience with LLM/RAG systems in production operation
- Experience with integration architecture in heterogeneous SaaS landscapes (API Gateways, Auth, Data Access)
- Proficient in using agent tooling, e.g., Claude Code or comparable tools
- Fluent English (minimum B2)
- Enjoy implementing standards in an established, decentralized organization through persuasion rather than directives
- Ideally, you also have a deep understanding of retrieval architectures, agent orchestration, and evaluation-driven development, and experience in convincing both engineering teams and management of architectural decisions.
Your Benefits
- Annual, generous training budget and catalog for internal training, external seminars, conferences, and keynotes
- Plenty of room for creativity, initiative, and responsibility
- Unlimited access to our high-tech workshop “MakerSpace”
- Flexible working hours and the option for home office enable good work-life balance
- Access to TU childcare facilities, part-time and parental leave models, childcare subsidies
- Flexible, monthly mobility budget via the Moovster app (MVG, Lime, Uber, Jobrad, etc.)
- Extensive sports program (Yoga, Pilates, Mindfulness, Cross Fit, Wellpass membership, as well as access to TUM sports activities)
Diversity is Important to Us
Diversity enriches our team. We expressly encourage all qualified individuals to apply, regardless of gender, social and ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religion, age, or disability.
