Kapiris Bros continues to operate and expand its original Two Wells property, now covering approximately 81 hectares of greenhouse-based tomato production. Through protected cropping, hydroponic systems, and collaboration with growers across multiple Australian states, the business delivers consistent, premium-quality produce year-round.

Gawler River Tomatoes Pty Ltd is seeking a skilled Agricultural and Agritech Technician (Hydroponic Farming) to support the design, operation, monitoring, and optimisation of irrigation and fertigation systems within its large-scale protected cropping environment.

Qualifications & Experience

To be successful in this role, applicants should have:

  • AQF Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or higher) in Agriculture, Horticulture, Irrigation, Agricultural Technology, or a closely related field
  • Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in hydroponic, protected cropping, or intensive horticulture environments
  • Strong operational skills including equipment use, planning, data recording, and reporting
  • High attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and adaptability to seasonal production requirements
  • Physical capacity to work in greenhouse environments (lifting, bending, standing)
  • Commitment to workplace safety, food safety, and continuous learning


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assist with the technical implementation and ongoing operation of hydroponic tomato production systems within protected cropping environments
  • Monitor and record crop health, plant development, yield performance, and quality indicators, reporting outcomes to farm management
  • Support irrigation and fertigation management, including monitoring, recording, and adjusting EC, pH, flow rates, and irrigation schedules in line with crop programs
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, monitoring, and maintenance of irrigation, fertigation, and hydroponic infrastructure, identifying faults and reporting maintenance requirements
  • Install, test, operate, and maintain agricultural sensors, monitoring equipment, and farm management software
  • Collect, analyse, and collate production and irrigation data, preparing technical reports to support yield optimisation and resource efficiency
  • Assist with pest and disease surveillance and support the implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies
  • Support spray preparation, calibration, and application activities under supervision, ensuring accurate chemical usage and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Assist with harvest planning, yield tracking, post-harvest assessment, and quality control processes
  • Maintain accurate quality assurance (QA), food safety, WHS, biosecurity, and compliance documentation, including production and input records
  • Provide technical support and guidance to farm staff on the correct use of hydroponic and irrigation systems
  • Assist with harvest, loading, and logistics activities as required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by assisting with production analysis and system optimisation
