Accounting & Controlling Expert

Job description

As our Accounting & Controlling Manager, you’ll build and strengthen our financial backbone. You’ll take ownership of budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and investor reporting, working closely with our Office Manager (who handles day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping).

This is a key role with a lot of responsibility but to manage expectations; you will have a very operational role in the beginning. This means prepping the budget, prepping the daily/weekly reporting and doing repetitive accounting stuff. Over time, you’ll help shape financial strategy as we scale.

Key Responsibilities

Budgeting & Financial Oversight

  • Lead annual budgeting processes with department leads
  • Track spending and help teams stay aligned with their budgets
  • Deliver clear, actionable budget performance reports quarterly

Controlling & Internal Reporting

  • Maintain financial controls and ensure policy compliance
  • Analyze expenditures and support financial efficiency
  • Provide timely internal reports and variance analyses

Investor & Stakeholder Reporting

  • Prepare financial materials and reports for investors, grantmakers, and partners
  • Ensure clarity and consistency in financial communications
  • Support data collection for audits, fundraising, and reporting

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Work with the Office Manager to oversee financial workflows (payments, invoicing, reconciliation)
  • Ensure tax, audit, and regulatory compliance (with external support where needed)
  • Help prepare for audits and due diligence processes

Strategic Growth (Future Scope)

  • Contribute to long-term planning and financial forecasting
  • Help develop tools and models that support smart growth and impact measurement

Requirements

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or similar and proven experience in accounting & finance controlling positions.
  • Strong skills in budgeting, cash planning, and financial analysis
  • Excellent command of Excel or Google Sheets and hands-on experience with Odoo accounting software.
  • Ability to clearly explain financial concepts to non-financial colleagues
  • High attention to detail and strong sense of ownership
  • Comfortable working independently in a fully remote, high-trust environment
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in ENG, Dutch & FR is a plus.
