Accountant

The Company

New Zealand based long-standing business who provide specialist services to a broad range of commercial clients nationwide. They have an enviable reputation built over many years and they partner with some of New Zealand's largest organisations, helping ensure their facilities operate safely and meet regulatory standards. Based in Onehunga with parking, this is a contract position with an immediate start.

The Role

Reporting directly to the owner, this is a broad, hands-on accounting position where you'll have the autonomy to take ownership of the finance function and keep everything running smoothly.

Leading a small team, you'll oversee the day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring billing, receivables and compliance processes are completed accurately and on time. This role would suit someone who enjoys responsibility, is comfortable making decisions independently and thrives in a practical, sleeves-rolled-up environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the end-to-end accounts receivable function, ensuring invoicing is accurate and delivered in line with each client's requirements
• Reviewing data flowing between the operational system and Xero to ensure billing integrity
• Overseeing accounts payable, approving payment runs and supporting the AP team
• Preparing GST, PAYE and other tax compliance requirements
• Completing balance sheet reconciliations and supporting month-end reporting
• Managing dividend payments and other finance administration
• Liaising with the external accountant during reporting periods
• Leading and supporting a small finance team while maintaining strong relationships across the business
• Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes and controls

Your Profile

You'll be an experienced Accountant who enjoys working across the full finance function and isn't afraid to get involved wherever needed.

What we are looking for:

• Previous experience in a broad Accountant or Company Accountant role
• Strong accounts receivable and billing experience
• Confidence managing GST, PAYE and general finance compliance
• Experience leading or mentoring a small team
• Strong working knowledge of Xero
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
• The confidence to work independently and manage competing priorities
• A practical, proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills
