Final Project or Thesis Work in 3D Component Identification

The 3D-aero GmbH is a tech company from Hamburg with about 60 employees and has been a proud part of the MTU Aero Engines AG since December 2024 – one of the world's leading companies in the aerospace industry. We develop customer-specific automation solutions for aircraft production and other industrial sectors. In doing so, we use optical sensor technology and modern industrial robots together with KI-based data processing to develop tailored systems for our customers.

We are currently offering a final project or thesis work in the field of 3D component identification.

A common application scenario in the area of Paint Automation is the automatic identification of components when loading chaotic pallets. As part of the assigned work, methods from current research should be implemented and tested. From an analysis of the framework conditions (component geometries, 3D data structures, etc.) suitable algorithms should be selected. With a demonstrator setup in our technology center, the implementation will be practically tested and evaluated.

Tasks

• Application scenario analysis and concretization of software specification
• Research on suitable algorithms for 3D component identification
• Implementation in our own framework 3D.OS (.NET8)
• Tests and evaluation at a real demonstrator

Qualification

• Studies in the field of Computer Science (or with corresponding emphases)
• First experiences in 3D image processing
• Self-responsible and structured working style
• Familiarity with common programming languages (ideally C#, alternatively C++/Python)
• Good English and German language skills
