What you will do

As a Mechanical Engineer, you ensure that the propulsion and hydraulic systems of our naval vessels function reliably and safely, thereby guaranteeing the operational readiness of the Royal Netherlands Navy. With your expertise, you prevent malfunctions that could impede mission-critical tasks. This role is crucial to safeguarding the security of our country and international operations.

In the role of Hydraulics Technician, you are the technical linchpin in the maintenance, modification, and optimization of hydraulic pressure components and installations on ships and in the workshop. You work hands-on, perform inspections, draw up repair plans, and oversee their execution. Additionally, you provide technical input and support fellow technicians with complex malfunctions.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Inspect: Conduct periodic checks on hydraulic installations and report deviations within the set timeframe.
  • Repair: Perform repairs on mechanical and hydraulic components and systems.
  • Optimize: Implement improvements in maintenance procedures that increase the availability of ship systems.
  • Document: Update technical files and reports in accordance with established standards.

What we ask for

  • Good command of the Dutch language (written & spoken).

  • VCA safety certificate.
  • Experience with maritime certification processes.
  • Willingness to follow additional technical courses.

Core Competencies

  • Problem analysis and solution-oriented action.
  • Accuracy and quality awareness.

What else we offer

The Royal Netherlands Navy places great value on personal growth and career development and offers numerous opportunities for this. In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (IKB). The IKB consists of money (16.33% of your gross annual salary) and time. With the IKB, you make choices that suit you and can assemble part of your employment conditions yourself. For example, you can choose to have a portion of your monthly income paid out whenever you wish. You can also convert this budget into additional vacation hours or spend it on tax-friendly goals, such as an (electric) bicycle or laptop. It is also possible to (temporarily) reduce your working hours by a few hours per week.

We also believe it is important that you can combine working at the Ministry of Defence with your private life. Various leave arrangements (e.g., 75% paid parental leave) and attention to physical and mental health contribute to a good balance.
